Fed: Gov't defends overhaul of employment services network

Acting Prime Minister JULIA GILLARD has defended a shake-up of the nation's employment
services network .. which could see hundreds of people out of work.

About 90 agencies who train and find work for the unemployed will miss out on contracts
during the overhaul of the Howard government's Job Network.

Ms GILLARD says the government will announce today who will be awarded the contracts
under the new Job Services Australia scheme.

She says a new tender process was necessary because the previous government's process
was lazy and neglectful.

She's acknowledged some people will lose their jobs when the new scheme begins on July 1.
