More than 10 million U.S. households had access to the Internet by the end of 1996, a number projected to increase to nearly 40 million by 2000. Ironically, corporate American is one of the driving forces behind Internet access in the home. For example, Pure Atria, a 600-employee software company, now offers free Internet access in the home as a standard benefit.
