NSW: NSW and Turkish students to study Anzac traditions

Schools in New South Wales and Turkey are to be linked under a plan to keep the Anzac
tradition alive.

Premier BOB CARR says a Memorandum of Understanding has been drawn up to bring teachers
and students in the two countries closer together.

He says the plan will encourage students to explore what happened at Gallipoli from
accounts or sources not normally used in schools.

Teachers and education experts will exchange ideas and resources on the history, culture
and language of Turkey.

There could also be teacher exchanges, sister-school arrangements, and direct electronic
links between the Turkish Education Ministry and the NSW Education Department.
