The June 15 article ``Accord looks out for Earth's well-being'' described how Catholic officials met regarding the environment. The Vatican, however, has been a major obstacle to efforts to rescue the planet from the burden of human overpopulation.
Overpopulation is the major cause of the degradation of nature. The cutting of forests, ocean depletion, global warming, air and water pollution, loss of natural habitat and the extinction of species are primarily caused by the crushing numbers of humanity.
